Leslie Scopes Anderson snatches Outdoor California Magazine’s photo contest

The talk between 3 elegant terns as well as an intruding Heermann’s gull has got Leslie Scopes Anderson, Arcata photographer, the honor of grand prize for the California Wildlife Photograph of the Year 2014 competition.

Earlier in January, Charlton H. Bonham, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife Director, chosen the magnificent picture, clicked at Golden Gate National Recreation Area, from a band of 5 finalists. The yearlong competition is sponsored by California Watchable Wildlife Inc, Outdoor California magazine and Sierra Nevada Conservancy.

Bonham told that the colors as well as sharpness of this snap are outstanding. But, it is the interaction between the gull as well as the terns which stays in people’s mind. Well, photos really a thousand words – and even if it is only in their imagination, this offers them a peek into wildlife interactions—the establishing of nature’s pecking order.

On 16th March, Mike McGuire, California Senator, would recognize Anderson on the floor of Senate for her winning snap. Mike represents Second Senate District—North Coast/North Bay area that includes Anderson’s hometown. Enlarged breedings of the 5 finalists as well as 2 honorable mentions by competition sponsors would hang outside the Governor’s Office at Capitol from 16th to 20th March. After that, the display would move to Natural Resources Building, 1416 Ninth St. in Sacramento, for a 2-week engagement. Continue reading →
